MedLit envisions a world where every individual, especially oncology patients, possesses the critical health media literacy skills needed to navigate the complex landscape of online health information confidently. Our goal is to empower patients to make informed decisions about their health care by discerning accurate information from misinformation, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes and a more informed public.

Context / European Relevance

In the digital age, the rapid dissemination of health information and misinformation across the European continent presents a significant challenge. The stakes are particularly high for oncology patients, who often turn to online sources in search of hope and answers. The European relevance of MedLit lies in its commitment to addressing this challenge by fostering a unified approach to health media literacy that transcends borders, cultures, and languages, ensuring that all patients have access to the tools and resources necessary to critically evaluate health information.

Objectives/Goals

MedLit aims to:

Enhance the health media literacy of oncology patients and the general public across Europe.
Develop and disseminate educational materials and resources that promote critical evaluation of health information.

Solution/Innovation

MedLit introduces an innovative, multi-faceted approach to health media literacy, combining the latest in educational technology, interactive content, and evidence-based pedagogy. Our solution involves creating a digital platform that serves as a hub for health media literacy resources, including online courses, interactive tools, and a community forum for sharing experiences and insights. By leveraging gamification, personalized learning paths, and real-world scenarios, MedLit makes learning about health media literacy engaging, accessible, and relevant.

Target Group

While our primary focus is on oncology patients, MedLit's resources are designed to benefit a broad audience, including caregivers, healthcare professionals, educators, and the general public. By equipping individuals with the skills to critically assess health information, we aim to foster a culture of informed health decision-making across the European community.

Detailed Activities

MedLit CHWs Manual with a detailed description clear guidelines and practical exercises for developing critical thinking and evaluating media content.
Community Health Workers toolkit with a training plan to teach about media literacy and false information, including medical information with additional online material;
Development of MedLit Bite-Sized Knowledge, an Online Educational Resource with a detailed description of Health Media Literacy and self-reflection test for Community Health Workers (CHWs) and patients;

Through these activities, MedLit seeks to create a lasting impact on the health and well-being of individuals across Europe, ensuring that they are equipped with the critical thinking skills necessary to navigate the digital health information landscape confidently.
